Understanding Poker - Texas Hold 'Em
I'm sure you've seen on television the World Poker Tour or Celebrity Poker Showdown. If you haven't, watch it sometime. They're playing Texas Hold 'Em poker. In mid-2000's it became a popular game in the United States, mostly because it allowed television viewers to watch the game, they could even see the players cards (hidden ones as well), and learn how to play just by watching.
There are several places online that hold tournaments for Texas Hold 'Em poker. Some have a nice pot; one internet player won admission to a World Series of Poker tournament simple by participating and winning an online tournament. |
The most popular form of poker today, can entertain you in a casino or online. You can buy it also now, to play at home. Invite the guys or gals over a "friendly" game.
There are several types of Hold 'Em, No limit in which a player can bet all of their chips at any time during the game. Limit in which before game start there is a specified amount in each game and round. Pot Limit in which a player can bet the amount in the pot.
The objective of this game is the same as that of any poker game, best hand wins! A basic game is played with first having a blind round (the player sitting right of the dealer posts a small blind, person sitting left of the dealer places a big blind.). Next each player is dealt 2 cards face down these are called pocket cards. Finally comes the first round of betting. After everyone has checked, bet, folded and/or raised the dealer will then turn over three community cards face up (these cards are used in conjunction with your hand). Here comes second round of betting. The dealer then turns over 1 more community card when the second round of betting has ended. You have a third betting round, then the dealer turns over the final community card. Final betting occurs then the showdown, which will then decide who is the lucky winner of the pot.
The type of hands you want in Texas Hold 'Em poker, is the same of any other poker hand, from 1 pair all the way up to Royal Straight.
This is a very challenging, yet entertaining game for all players at any skill level. It's a faced paced game you can play and enjoy for many, many years.
